Matilda “Tillie” Peckham Hall was my 3x Great Aunt on my mother’s side. She was born on the 25th of December 1883 to Frederick Hall and Mary Ann (Waller) Hall in Newport, Rhode Island. Tillie was one of nine children. Her brothers were Charles Alfred, George, Joseph Henry, and Frederick William. Her sisters were Sarah “Alice”, Elizabeth “Ada”, Kate, and Bessie.

On October 6, 1903 Tillie married Millard Fillmore Sherman, Jr. at Emmanuel Church. Tillie was 19 at the time of her marriage.

About a year and a half after Tillie and Millard married, she died. I have been unable to find a death certificate, but one can speculate it may have been in child birth. The death notice in the paper has some discrepancies in it, but as with anything it is unknown who reported the information. The discrepancies are her age. She was 21 one she died not 23 and they notice says they were married less then a year. Which is also not the case.

Matilda “Tillie” Peckham (Hall) Sherman lived a very short life. I hope it was a happy one.
