Peter Kelley was my 3rd Great Uncle. He was born on the 18th of November 1856 to Lawrence and Fannie (Atkins) Kelley in Taunton, Massachusetts. He was one of eight children. Both Lawrence and Fannie were immigrants from Ireland.
In 1880 he worked as a coachman.
On December 26 1886 he married Mary E McGee. Unfortunately they were married just shy of 9 months when she died of tuberculosis on the 16th of September 1887. It is after this period here Peter may have gone to New York. He seems to have disappeared in the 1900 census but reappears in 1910.
Tin type pictures taken of Peter Kelley in New York.
Peter took on quit a bit of family responsibility upon his return to Taunton. He took in his 3 sisters Mary and Lena who were both single and Fannie who was a widow along with her daughter Ruth. He also took on the job of Night Watchman at the Copper Works.
In the 1910 and 1920 Census he is shown as the head of the household with the four women living under his roof. In the 1930 Census Fannie and Ruth are gone however his brother Daniel is living with him along with his sisters Mary and Lena. In the 1940 Census Fannie is back living with him and his sister Lena.
Peter died on May 7, 1952 from pulmonary edema. At the time of his death he was living with his niece Ruth (Gough) Murphy and her husband Dr. Joseph Leroy Murphy.
