The Murphy Doctors

So far I have found 8 Murphy Doctors.  Let me walk you thur them.

1.  The first Dr. Joseph Murphy

  • Graduate Trinity All Hallows College Dublin, Ireland
  • Graduate Royal College of Surgeons, London June 7, 1839
  • Graduate Apothecaries Hall Dublin, Ireland
  • Graduate Meath Hall Dublin, Irlend
  • Director of a Medical School in England
  • Professor of Anatomy in the Royal School of Surgeons Manchester, England

The first Doctor Joseph Murphy put younger brother Charles through Medical School.  Three of his children also became doctors.

2.  Dr. Charles Muprhy (brother of first Dr. Joseph Murphy)

  • Graduate Glasgow University Medical School Scotland
  • Private Practice Manchester, England

3.  Dr. Joseph Briggs Murphy (son of first Dr. Joseph Murphy)

  • Graduate College Sainte Marie, Montreal
  • Graduate Harvard Medical School Class of 1883
  • Intern Boston City Hospital
  • Graduate work in surgery New York City
  • Practiced medicine in Taunton, Massachusetts for more than 50 years, distinguished for surgery and bone-setting

4.  Dr. Emily Frances Bliss Murphy (wife of Dr. Joseph Briggs Murphy)

  • Graduate of College of Physicians and Surgeons 1892
  • prior to that she was a Graduate of New England Conservatory of Music (Voice)
  • Member of the Massachusetts Medical Society
  • Connected with Carney Hospital and Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital
  • Surgical Assistant to Dr. Fred Johnson, Boston
  • Practiced for more then 40 years

5.  Dr. Francis Murphy (son of first Dr. Joseph Murphy, brother of Dr. Joseph Briggs Murphy)

  • Graduate Harvard Medical School

6.  Dr. Charles Oscar Murphy (son of first Dr. Joseph Murphy, brother of Dr. Joseph Briggs Murphy and Dr. Francis Murphy)
