Okay so I realize it has been a very long time since I have posted. Things have been a little crazy with kids starting preschool and just life in general. I was also at a bit of a stand still with some of my genealogy work and will admit I couldn’t motivate myself. I am hoping this will be the first of many more posts to come with what is left of this year. Jessica, I would like to thank you for your wonderful work on our family roots. After my mom, Norma Riva Murphy, died in October 2012, your interest in geneology and postings on the Murphy family history helped my dad in his time of deep grief and mourning. Together, Dad and I researched some local family history to, hopefully, help you in your research. It gave Dad an important focus, and gave both of us a connection and a mission. Dad loved talking about the geneology of his family, and was so impressed with the work you had done. He and I had wonderful days searching out gravestones and talking about old family stories. During that difficult time, you reminded us all that, though life goes on, our roots lie in the stories, lives, loves, and hard work of our ancestors. Our loved ones and ancestors live on in us, and through us. The memories matter and their lives mattered. That thought helped my Dad, more than you know. It helped us all. My Dad, John Atkins Murphy, passed on March 9th, 2015. We miss him dearly, this intelligent, funny, hard-working and devoted-to-family man. He lives on in our memories, our stories, our hearts, and in our daily lives. Thank you for illustrating that so beautifully in your photos and stories.
